The 2008/09 final saw Whittle FC go head to head with Imperial on at Victory Park, Chorley in front of a crowd of over 100 people.
The game kicked off at a ferocious pace with both teams battling hard for possession but struggling to gain the advantage.
The two defences and midfields seemed to dominate the game and restricted chances to a minimum with both teams looking most likely to score from a set piece of some sort.
Indeed when the breakthrough eventually came 30 minutes into the game it was from a corner. Imperial had had a few half chances from previous corners and long throws, but this one was player into the box menacingly and won by an Imperial head. It was saved by the keeper, but dropped to an Imperial player 6 yards out. An almighty goalmouth scrap ensued and the result was an Imperial goal.
That goal kick started a Whittle resurgence and they suddenly started to apply pressure on the Imperial goal. A few half chances came, again in the shape of corners and free kicks; then just before half time a beautiful corner was whipped in. The Whittle player leapt like a salmon and headed aggressively into the back of the net to equalise.
The game remained 1-a-piece until half time and neither team could really complain about the result.
The second half kicked off with Imperial winning a couple of free kicks close to goal, both of which were squandered, but after that the game played itself out with neither team looking likely to break the deadlock.
The game looked destined for extra time as it was very evenly matched, but as both teams had players dropping with cramp left, right and centre, neither wanted to go to extra time. This resulted in the game opening up a little in the second half, but tired legs led to tired shots and the game finished 1 – 1 at the end of 90 minutes.
Extra time was played much in the same vein as the first 90 minutes, and the game ended 1 – 1 and was to be decided on penalties.

So Imperial won the shootout 4 -3 and are now the CM Booth Memorial Cup Winners for the 2008/09 season
